Cozy Camping Recipe: Sweet Onion Meatballs

Sweet Onion Meatballs


  • 1 32-oz package frozen, fully cooked Italian meatballs
  • 1 Vidalia sweet onion, chopped
  • ¼ cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 envelope onion soup mix
  • 12-oz beer (or nonalcoholic beer – your choice)
  • Hoagie or Ciabatta rolls (optional)
  • Swiss cheese (optional)

You’ll also need:

  • Crock Pot
  • Slow cooker liner
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring cups


  • Place the slow cooker liner in the Crock Pot.
  • Chop onion.
  • Place meatballs, chopped onion, brown sugar, and onion soup mix into the Crock Pot. Pour the beer over the entire mixture.
  • Put the lid on and heat on low for 4-6 hours.
  • Serve as appetizer snacks with toothpicks or on hoagie rolls – my family likes them topped with Swiss cheese.
